Students applying for institutional financial aid for the 2021-2022 academic year are advised to submit all of the required forms as soon as possible, and no later than Thursday, April 1.

The incoming Spring 2021 class comprises a diverse group of students. Below, a few incoming students share their stories from their experiences before coming to GS to now—all of it culminating in their enrollment at Columbia University.

To support students in the beginning of the spring 2021 semester, the ARC is offering walk-in tutoring and coaching during the first two weeks of the semester.

On Monday, January 4, 2021, the School of General Studies (GS) welcomed its largest Spring semester cohort in history at a virtual orientation ceremony. 280 undergraduate and Postbac Premed students and their families were invited to the online event allowing them to engage with the GS staff and one another, and to learn about the abundant resources that GS offers to students. 

Given the unprecedented and unexpected continuation of the pandemic and its effect on students and campus life, the School of General Studies is announcing the opportunity to apply for a one-time emergency grant paid directly to students.

For the spring 2021 semester, the Columbia University School of General Studies—dedicated to serving nontraditional students and one of three undergraduate colleges at the University—has again broken its own records in both applications received and students who ultimately enrolled.

Margeaux Wolberg ‘22GS/JTS discusses her journey in the Joint Program with GS and the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) as a Religion and Jewish Gender and Women’s Studies major. She’s currently learning virtually from Hopatcong, New Jersey, and shares some of her best virtual learning tips and suggestions for how to keep entertained during distance learning.

The fall 2020 cohort of the Justice and Pandemics Preparedness Academy gathered virtually on Friday, December 11 to discuss the Academy's first semester. 

Tinatin Japaridze ’18 still recalls the day Professor Victoria Phillips ’85 called to ask if she’d be interested in working as a research assistant on the book she was writing about American modern dancer Martha Graham. At the time, Japaridze was a second-year undergraduate student at GS and describes being “completely blown away” by the offer, which she eagerly accepted.
