GS Planning Days

Undergraduate Planning Day

Planning Day involves a series of events designed to assist students in making a smooth transition to Columbia University. The activities during Planning Day provide incoming students the opportunity to interact with one another as well as to meet continuing undergraduate students, learn more about educational financing options, become familiar with the Morningside Heights campus, and begin to acquaint themselves with the undergraduate degree program. Admitted students are encouraged to register for a Planning Day as soon as possible.

While most of the GS Planning Day activities are optional, attendance at an APS is:

  • Mandatory for all matriculating students
  • A prerequisite for registering for classes and meeting with an academic advisor

During the Academic Planning Session, a GS advisor will provide an overview of the registration and advising process at GS to a group of incoming students. The core and degree requirements will be introduced in detail along with the relevant policies, website links, and resources needed for students to plan their academic schedules.

Students cannot attend an APS until they have formally accepted the offer of admission, signified by submitting the Acceptance Reply Form along with a non-refundable $500 tuition deposit. In order to assign students an academic advisor, these items must be received two weeks prior to attending an APS. To submit your acceptance reply form and tuition deposit online using a credit or debit card, please log in to your application profile.

Students are encouraged to attend an APS at their earliest convenience. The sooner students register for classes, the better chance they will have to register for courses that fit both their interests and schedules. Seats are limited for each APS.

Note: Students may register for only one APS at a time. Students who can no longer attend the APS for which they registered must cancel their registration before registering for a new APS. If this is the case, please refer to the confirmation email, which provides a URL to make the cancellation. After the APS has been canceled, please return to this page to register for a new APS.

To complete the registration process, students must have their Columbia University ID (CUID), which is provided in the admissions letter. Students who experience difficulty registering for an APS should email gsaps@columbia.edu.

Postbac Planning Day

Planning Day involves a series of events designed to assist students in making a smooth transition to Columbia University. The activities during Planning Day provide incoming students the opportunity to interact with one another as well as to meet continuing Postbac Premed students, learn more about educational financing options, become familiar with the Morningside Heights campus, and begin to acquaint themselves with the Program. Admitted students are encouraged to register for a Planning Day as soon as possible.

While most of the activities of Postbac Planning Day are optional, attendance at a Postbac Planning Session (PPS) is:

  • Mandatory for all new students
  • A prerequisite for meeting with an academic advisor and registering for classes

All newly admitted students to the Postbac Premed Program must attend a Postbac Planning Session (PPS) before meeting with an advisor or registering for courses. During the PPS, students will review the general academic requirements, the registration and advising process, and other policies they will need to know as a GS student.

Students cannot attend a PPS until they have formally accepted the offer of admission, signified by submitting the Acceptance Reply Form along with a non-refundable $500 tuition deposit. In order to assign students an academic advisor, these items must be received two weeks prior to attending a PPS. To submit your acceptance reply form and tuition deposit online using a credit or debit card, please log in to your application profile.

Students are encouraged to attend a PPS at their earliest convenience. The sooner students can register for classes, the better chance they will have of getting into courses that fit both interests and schedule. Seats are limited for each PPS.

Note: Only one PPS may be registered for at a time. Students who determine they can no longer attend an PPS they have registered for must cancel their registration before registering for a new PPS. If this is the case, refer to the confirmation email, which provides a URL to make the cancellation. After the PPS has been canceled, return to this page to register for a new PPS.

To complete the registration process, students will need their Columbia University ID (CUID) provided in the admissions letter. Students who experience problems registering for a PPS should email gspps@columbia.edu

Students who live in the New York area can make an appointment to meet with their advisor after they attend a PPS. Same-day advising appointments are reserved for out-of-town students.

Out-of-Town Students

Students who live outside the tri-state area and plan to make a special trip to New York to attend a Postbac Planning Day may request a same-day appointment with an advisor. At least one week prior to the PPS, students should email gspps@columbia.edu with the following information:

  • Name
  • CUID (found in Admissions Letter)
  • Date for which you have registered for a PPS (and received a confirmation email)
