Arenstein will work with students in the classroom to develop fluency in English and build aural and reading comprehension skills, and will host conversation clubs—for both students and faculty—focusing on cultural issues. He will also hold office hours every day in order to provide additional assistance to students, and to help faculty refine their English skills, specifically in regard to translations of their research articles.
"Overall, the aim of my project is to facilitate English language fluency among students and faculty of the institute so as to allow them to participate in international STEM discourse while fostering a cultural exchange between Uzbekistan and the United States," Arenstein said.
Arenstein’s decision to apply stemmed from his passion for foreign language acquisition and cultural exchange, and he found that the Fulbright ETA fellowship presented a unique opportunity to participate in a productive intercultural dialogue while fostering mutual understanding through language exchange.
"Without the fellowship I never would have had the opportunity to live and work in Uzbekistan. The support I have received from Fulbright and the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent has been immeasurable, from connecting me with a host institution to supporting my ideas for English language conferences and master classes and giving me the autonomy to accomplish such projects. Fulbright has laid the foundation upon which I can build a successful year ahead," Arenstein said.
