PMA Executive Board Election

Students are invited to participate in the Premedical Association (PMA) Executive Board election as a candidate and/or a voter. The PMA, which is made up of Postbac Premed Program and GS undergraduate students pursuing premedical coursework, works closely with the premedical advisors to build a supportive community.

Candidacy Requirements
Students interested in submitting for candidacy for the Board are required to submit a candidate statement (brief description of the position you are interested in and your qualifications [approximately 150-200 words]) and headshot. The candidate statement and a headshot will be included in the electronic ballot for voting purposes and should be emailed to Student Life Program Manager, Ashley Astwood, [email protected] using the subject line "PMA Elections: X Position."

Voting: Mon., April 13 - Fri., April 17 

Candidacy Eligibility
Candidates may run for up to two positions. Please note that some positions may involve significant time commitments. For more information about a specific position, please contact the current position holder (email addresses included below for reference.)

To be eligible for the PMA Executive Board, you must:

  1. Be a Columbia University Postbaccalaureate Premedical Student in good standing with the GS Dean of Students Office and the Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program Office.
  2. Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
  3. Have completed one (1) semester of premedical coursework with satisfactory grades by end of the spring 2020 term.

Time Commitment
If elected, new E-board members will be expected to attend the following events: 

  • Meeting with the Deans (via Zoom): Fri., April 24, 11 a.m.
  • E-board Transition Meeting (via Zoom): Fri., May 1, 11 a.m.

Open Positions
All members of the E-board work together to represent the PMA and postbac premed community for school-wide initiatives.

  • President: Manages auxiliary groups; supports and advises PMA vice presidents.

  • Vice President of Communications: Drafts and sends weekly email newsletters detailing pre-health-related topics and happenings to postbac students and undergraduate students interested in premedical courses in the school of General Studies; manages PMA social media accounts.

  • Vice President of Community Relations: Plans service events during the semester to benefit the surrounding community and/or greater NYC area; actively recruits and leads student participants for each project.

  • Vice President of Premedical Events:  Plans and runs events aimed to help develop healthy study habits, increase medical knowledge, and prepare students for a career in healthcare.

  • Vice President of Social Events: Organizes and hosts events to bring the postbac community together in non-medical settings; communicates with local vendors to host events such as end of semester and end of year de-stress parties.

  • Vice President of Finance: Prepares and maintains PMA and auxiliary group budgets; submits financial transaction forms for student group purchases. Contact: Candida Damian [email protected]
     
  • Vice President of Medical School Fair Operations: Plans logistics of the Medical School Fair such as ordering supplies and food, meeting with the administrative team to discuss use of space, and managing volunteers; may also appoint 2-3 Chief Volunteers to assist with Fair tasks.

  • Vice President of Medical School Fair Outreach: Works alongside the VP of Medical School Fair Operations, PMA Advisor, and Postbac Deans to plan, organize, and host the annual Medical School Fair; communicates with personnel from invited institutions and handles logistical needs; is the primary student liaison and contact for the Fair.
