Position Description
The New York Brain Bank at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a volunteer to assist staff to meet the needs of neuroscientists investigating neurological disorders.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting staff in banking and organizing frozen post-mortem tissue
- Assisting staff in fulfilling tissue requests and requests for additional information on tissue
- Organizing, labeling, and filing slides, charted donor information, and formalin-fixed tissue
- Stocking, cleaning, and preparing cutting room for incoming cases
- General lab upkeep tasks, including regular freezer temperature checks
Position Requirements
- Basic understanding of neuroanatomy a plus
- Interest in neurodegenerative disease, pathology, and/or medical field a plus
Time Commitment
Part-time (8+ hours per week), with a minimum commitment of one year
