Position Description 
The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is seeking volunteers for two programs: 1) Patient Transport and Navigation Program, 2) 9th Floor Family Atrium. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to see how our surgical centers run, engage in meaningful interactions with patients and families, and enhance your communication skills.

Patient Navigation and Transport Program: Volunteers assist with patient transportation and navigation within the facility, ensuring they receive timely care and support while at HSS. As a Patient Transport volunteer, students will have the opportunity to interact directly with patients and contribute to their comfort and well-being.

Family Atrium Volunteer, 9th Floor: Volunteers Atrium provide essential support and guidance to families navigating through challenging times. Their presence and empathy can make a significant difference in the lives of those going through difficult medical situations.

Position Requirements: 

  • Excellent customer service skills including listening and communicating effectively
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask
  • High level of emotional intelligence as well as strong empathy, care, and compassion
