Position Description
Parkview Cardiology PLLC is seeking to to add a Volunteer Assistant (Clinical and Reception) to their staff. Parkview Cardiology PLLC is a completely office-based cardiology practice where you will have set hours and enjoy an environment that is inviting, educational, and friendly. With a passionate emphasis on cardiovascular education for both patient and staff, Parkview Cardiology is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate medical assistant/receptionist to take care of its patients. There is currently one physician in this practice—Kedar Sankholkar, MD, MS, FACC—who is a Columbia-affiliated physician.
Responsibilities include:
- Answering patients’ phone calls, emails, etc., registering and booking appointments, verifying insurance, obtaining authorizations
- Screening questions for COVID-19
- Checking in patients, including taking credit card information, copay, and registration forms
- Helping patients with check-out (follow-up appointments, testing appointments)
- Speaking with insurance companies
- Reviewing charts before patients' appointments to make sure consult notes and test results are in the chart
- Greeting and escorting patients to exam room
- Obtaining vital signs including manual BP, EKG, medication reconciliation, medical/social/family history, quality questionnaire, etc.
- Taking patient messages, including clinical messages (e.g., new symptoms) and medication refills
- Placing monitors on patients and ensuring results are reported to physician
- Performing stress tests (training in office provided)
- Creating a working and trusting relationship with patients including assisting them with various health-related needs when not providing direct clinical care
- Preparing examination rooms and patients for visit
- Maintaining and managing office supply inventory
- Assisting patient to taxi or ambulance occasionally if being sent to ER
Position Requirements
- Previous clinical experience a plus
- Experience speaking with insurance companies a plus
- Familiarity with Athena and Epic EMR a plus
Time Commitment
Part-time (3-5 days per week preferred)
Compensation
Volunteer, with possibility of turning into a full-time paid position
Note: Unless the candidate has 1+ years of full-time equivalent cardiology experience, an unpaid internship will first be offered to allow for thorough in-office training (3-9 months based on candidate schedule/availability) with an offer for supervised clinical hours that will be documented to show on applications. These have often turned into full-time paid positions.
