Position Description
Mount Sinai is seeking applicants for the Emergency Medicine Clinical Health, Advocacy, and Mentorship Pathway Program (EM-CHAMPPs), an immersive clinical and educational volunteer program that aims to inform and promote the role that careers in emergency medicine can play as the intersection between medicine and society through patient advocacy, promotion of health equity, and elimination of health disparities. Upon successful completion of the EM-CHAMPPs program requirement, all recipients will receive a certificate of completion and a Letter of Recommendation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Paging physicians and/or consults
  • Printing discharge instructions
  • Transporting patients to certain rooms
  • Gathering supplies for specific procedures
  • Obtaining forms or paperwork (consents, times outs, transfer forms)
  • Answering phone calls
  • Observing and supporting providers with procedures such as laceration repairs, cast and splint application, ECGs, IV placement, lumbar Punctures, simple wound cleaning, and dressing changes
  • Rotating through various clinical areas within Mount Sinai Morningside-West Emergency Department including the Adult and Pediatric department
  • Shadowing and observing clinical care from the perspective of physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and social workers
  • Participating in various Emergency Department related community service projects during the course of the program
  • Participating in weekly meetings, lectures, and hands-on/simulation workshops introducing the core competencies of  emergency medicine such as first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), trauma, mental health and social determinants of health

Position Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Currently enrolled and in good academic standing at an undergraduate or post baccalaureate school
  • U.S Citizen

Time Commitment
Part-time, July 17, 2023 - August 28th 2023. Students are required to commit to volunteering for 8 weeks for a total of 80 hours, including 40 hours clinical shadowing, 30 hours of lectures/workshops, and 10 hours community service Projects.
