Organization
The Roh Lab, Columbia University Irving Medical Center

Position Description
The Roh Lab, led by David Roh, MD, is seeking a research assistant interested in contributing to basic translational stroke research. The lab focuses on the translational study of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), the most devastating subtype of stroke characterized by bleeding into the brain. This hemorrhagic stroke currently has no proven treatments to improve long term outcomes. The lab’s current focus is to better understand how to stop bleeding more effectively and improve oxygen delivery to the brain, which are both processes critically involved in long term outcomes.

Students will work closely with a senior member of the lab to be trained in all tasks and will have the opportunity to participate in weekly meetings, attend seminars, and present relevant data at local and national conferences for projects they are involved in. Should a student stay on in the lab for an extended period, more independent projects will be considered. Students may also receive course credit for their work, if there is a course that allows research time.

Responsibilities include:

  • Handling mice, including for MRIs & brain tissue collection and processing
  • Condcuting immunofluorescence
  • Using wide-field and confocal microscopy
  • Completing data analysis and presentation
