Position Description
The Center for Computational Neuropathology (director: Dr. John F. Crary, MD-PhD) at Mount Sinai is seeking student research interns to be trained in developing and deploying approaches to diagnose and study brain diseases using advanced digital pathology and machine learning models (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, Parkinson’s disease, COVID-19-related encephalopathy, etc.).

Responsibilities Include:

  • Preparing clinical samples from human brain tissue for our computational data analysis pipeline
  • Assisting in the construction of a digital brain slide archive
  • Neuroanatomical and cellular assessments of clinical human brain samples from patients
  • Working alongside data scientists/bioinformaticians/software engineers deploying AI algorithms
  • Assisting physicians with analyzing clinical and AI generated data for journal publications
  • Collaborating with clinicians, data analysts, and scientists at partnered institutions

Position Requirements

  • Strong academic potential
  • A current college student working on a bachelor’s degree or recent graduate
  • Exposure to neuroscience or related discipline recommended (i.e., undergraduate major)
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Intent to matriculate into a Ph.D., M.D., or combined program
  • Computational/coding skills not required

Time Commitment
Part-time, 12-15 hours per week
