New Student Required Trainings and Tutorials

All new students at the Columbia University School of General Studies are required to complete several important trainings prior to or soon after matriculation.

New School of General Studies students beginning their enrollment are required to complete all of the components below:

  1. Pre-Orientation Tutorials, required of all incoming students by the Office of University Life
  2. GS Mandatory New Student Orientation Program sessions, required of all incoming students by the University and the School of General Studies
  3. Community Citizenship Initiative, which occurs at the start of each Fall semester and is required of all incoming students each year by the Office of University Life

These initiatives are required of all incoming students both at the School level during Orientation programming and at the University wide level - as Columbia takes seriously the need to educate our community about sexual respect and about diversity and inclusion.

Pre-Orientation Tutorials from University Life

Every new student at Columbia must complete two required tutorials that introduce important university policies and valuable student resources. These tutorials convey values that are foundational to membership in the Columbia University community and provide skills and resources to help support you during your time here. Both must be completed before your arrival on campus. For more information please visit universitylife.columbia.edu/welcome-columbia-pre-orientation-tutorials

GS New Student Orientation Program

During the GS New Student Orientation Program all incoming students are required to complete mandatory programs that include Sexual Respect (from the Title IX Office and Sexual Violence Response (SVR)), Academic Integrity & Academic Advising, and Understanding Bias.
