Position Description
The Cheng Laboratory in the Department of Radiology and Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking a research technician to join their team. 

The lab uses magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging (MRS/MRI) to discover biomarkers for many different types of cancers and diseases, including prostate cancer, lung cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease. Projects include nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis of biofluid samples and mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) of tissue samples from patients and animal models, with the goal of developing less- or non-invasive diagnostic tools for clinical implementation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collecting tissue samples and conduct MRS/MRI analysis of ex vivo tissue samples
  • Conducting NMR analysis of urine and cell media samples
  • Performing histopathological analysis on analyzed tissue
  • Assisting faculty with grant writing, grant reviews, and manuscript writing
  • Working with their biostatistician to perform data analysis
  • Processing raw data to create analyzable spectra
  • Reviewing pathology reports and medical records from subjects to correlate with pathological and radiological findings
  • Maintaining regular communication with collaborators and working with them on sample collection, delivery, and analysis
  • Performing administrative duties such as ordering supplies, faxing, filing, IRB submission, and lab equipment maintenance scheduling
  • Assisting visiting medical students with research and administrative processes

Position Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. degree
  • Background in laboratory science
  • Prior laboratory experience is a plus
