Position Description
The Longman Laboratory at Weill Cornell Medicine is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented and responsible team player to serve as a Research Technician. The primary focus of their lab is the regulation of the intestinal immune system by the microbiota and how we can understand these connections to improve intestinal disease. The Technician will work closely with post-doctoral fellows and graduate students in an exciting academic environment studying mucosal immunology and microbiome science using both mouse models and human samples. The Technician will help to maintain the mouse colony, work closely with fellows and students to perform experiments, partner with the Live Cell Bank to process human intestinal samples, and support general lab maintenance.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Working with graduate students and post-doctoral fellows to perform immune cell analysis in various models including flow cytometry and microscopy
  • Working with molecular biology including DNA and RNA isolation for sequence analysis
  • Performing basic mouse husbandry, such as setting up mating cages, pup checks, weaning mouse pups, ear tagging,
  • Isolating genomic DNA and running PCR for genotyping, maintaining accurate records of animal breeding, health, weaning, etc.
  • Using electronic mouse colony management software
  • Ordering, stocking, and maintaining general lab organization

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of one year prior experience in animal handling and maintenance in a research lab
  • BS in Biology or other related STEM field (or equivalent experience)
  • Understanding of mouse genetics, housing, husbandry and maintenance of genetically modified mouse lines
  • Experience with molecular biology such as PCR
  • Willing to learn new techniques with general instruction
  • Able to take initiative, prioritize tasks, use good judgment, and monitor completion of assigned duties

Compensation
$22.11 to $28.79 per hour
