Position Description
The Translational Cancer Immunology (TCI) lab at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and the Broad Institute is seeking an individual to join their team as a full-time Research Technician.

The candidate will be key in advancing the lab’s research goals to understand the mechanisms driving resistance to immunotherapies using single-cell genomics, functional in vivo CRISPR screens, and mechanistic studies. The lab has been working closely with MGH clinicians to study the immune response in patients with cancer and infections using leading-edge genomics and proteomics methods.

Responsibilities include:

  • Isolating immune cells from patient and mouse tumors and contribute to their characterization using advanced methods of single-cell molecular profiling. The candidate would work with primary cells from these tumors.
  • Working with flow cytometry, cell sorting, cell culture, single-cell RNA-seq, Imaging, PCR, DNA sequence analysis, western blotting, and CRISPR technologies.
  • Carrying out non-routine, highly specialized experimental procedures in histology, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, molecular biology, mouse cellular immunology
  • Modifying and/or developing techniques and methodologies necessary to meet research and/or experimental needs.
  • Organizing workflow as needed and coordinates the scheduling of experiments.
  • Ordering laboratory reagents and maintaining mouse colonies for tumor immunity studies.
  • Maintaining databases for patient-derived clinical specimens.
  • Organizing and accurately maintaining written records of experimental procedures and data collection.
  • Contributing to the preparation of manuscripts resulting from data generated in research projects.
  • Performing advanced data analysis using complex software programs and statistical techniques.
  • Teaching moderately difficult to complex lab techniques to students and research personnel.
  • Participating in weekly lab and project-related meetings

Position Requirements

  • 1+ years of lab experience, preferably in an Immunology/cancer laboratory
  • Experience with common biological techniques, such as cell culture and DNA/RNA library construction and sequencing, protein analysis, and preferably mouse cellular immunology
  • Quantitative data analysis skills are a plus
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail in experimental techniques and record keeping
  • BS/BA/equivalent degree (or Masters) in biology, cell and molecular biology, Immunology, microbiology, biochemistry or related field in the sciences
  • Experience as a research technician or leading independent research projects is a plus
