Position Description
Hospital for Special Surgery, Division of Rheumatology is looking for research assistants to work with Dr. Lisa Mandl on studies of arthritis, osteoporosis, and total joint replacement. The successful applicant for the position of Research Assistant will be an organized individual who is able to perform a variety of different tasks essential to the conduct of a clinical study.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Administering questionnaires to patients in person, by mail, and by phone
  • Acting as a resource for patients regarding study consent forms
  • Sending out letters to patients inviting them to participate in studies
  • Acting as a liaison between physicians, physician's office staff, and study participants
  • Coordinating patient visits with physician schedules
  • Being a contact person for patients to call regarding questions regarding study protocols
  • Calling patients between visits to ensure compliance and answering any questions
  • Setting up electronic databases and creating electronic data collection forms
  • Data entry into an electronic database
  • Organizing and maintaining all paperwork related to the study
  • Obtaining tissue samples from the operating room
  • Submitting abstracts to academic meetings to disseminate study results
  • Helping create posters, PowerPoint presentations, and manuscripts of study results
  • Assisting in grant submission

Position Requirements

  • Computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Excel, data entry
  • Excellent phone and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Availability to be on site at the hospital during patient visits

Time Commitment
Full-time (40 hours/week) with a minimum 12 month commitment, 24 months preferred

Compensation
$43,000 annually
