Position Description
The Hillel Y. Marans MD, FACS medical practice in Midtown Manhattan is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic team player for a full-time medical scribe position in their busy urology practice. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who would like to gain practical experience in a medical setting and is planning to take one or two gap-years before medical school. Scribes also have medical research opportunities through part-time after-hour positions with outside physicians, potentially leading to publication in medical journals. 

The position entails conducting patient interviews and assisting the doctor in procedures, as well as functioning as a liaison between the doctor, patients, and outside healthcare professionals in a team of one other medical scribe, two office staff members, and Dr. Marans.

Responsibilities include:

  • Interviewing each patient and documenting their medical history in the EMR
  • Entering findings during the physical exam and noting the impression and plan
  • Finishing the summary of the visit and sending correspondence to the patient’s healthcare professionals
  • Setting up the uroflowmetry equipment and explaining to patients how to use the machine
  • Preparing lab cultures
  • Setting up and assisting with procedures including minimally invasive prostate procedures
  • Counseling patients on getting blood tests and setting up lab and radiologic appointments

Position Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and the completion of premedical coursework
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent typing skills a must
  • Ability to learn how to use an EMR (electronic medical record)

Compensation
$20 per hour
