Position Description
Hospital for Special Surgery is looking for Clinical Research Assistants (CRA) to work in the Research Division. CRAs play a vital role in research studies, working closely with nurses and physicians to identify and follow research candidates.

As an essential part of the research team, they actively help to organize clinical trials while making sure these are compliant with all regulatory, institutional and departmental requirements. The CRA will work under Dr. Jane Salmon, Director of the SLE & APS Center at Hospital for Special Surgery, on lupus and APS clinical trials and observational studies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with Principal Investigator(s) (PIs) to meet project goals and deadlines as assigned
  • Preparing and submitting study related materials to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), i.e., initial protocol submissions, study amendments, continuing reviews, adverse events, protocol deviations, etc.
  • Identifying, screening and enrolling eligible patients into research studies
  • Coordinating patient visits according to the established protocol
  • Extracting data from medical records and entering study related data into a web-based data entry system
  • Accessing data from the database, preparing regular reports on study progress and performing basic statistical analyses
  • Depending on the study, processing blood samples according to the protocol and maintaining the repository of biological samples may be required
  • Performing other job-related duties as required

Position Requirements

  • Prior lab experience: ELISA, cell culture, Western blot, PCR
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with all patient medical data
