Position Description
The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking a highly motivated research assistant for their neuropathology research laboratory. The program is directed by Dr. John F. Crary, MD-PhD, and focuses on the underlying neuropathology and genetics of Alzheimer's Disease and related neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., chronic traumatic encephalopathy, Parkinson’s disease, etc.).

Successful applicants will have opportunities to attend and present at conferences and contribute to publications. The individual will have opportunities to interface with both clinical staff and basic scientists, making the position ideal for someone who is interested in matriculating to MD or PhD programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing cell culture techniques including primary fibroblast generation, maintenance of stem cell lines, generation of brain organoid models for downstream experiments and screening assays
  • Immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, and fluorescence microscopy for human brain tissue and stem cell projects
  • Performing general molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques e.g., PCR, RT-PCR, isolation of genomic DNA and RNA from cells and brain tissue, western blotting
  • Assisting with data collection, entry, and analysis
  • Works closely with staff scientists, postdoctoral fellows, trainees to ensure the success
  • Ensure lab conditions and equipment comply with safety procedures and documentation

Position Requirements

  • This role requires a bachelor’s degree in a science-related discipline, such as neuroscience, biology, chemistry, psychology, etc.
  • Applicants must have experience working in a lab environment
  • Applicants should have a strong interest in neuroscience and brain research
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

Time Commitment
Full-time, with a minimum two-year commitment.

Compensation
$50,000 - $60,000
