Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Taskforce

The Taskforce was convened in Fall 2020 to work towards an anti-racist, multicultural GS that builds on our long-term commitment to education access and equity for students of all backgrounds.

Working Groups

Increasing Student Diversity at GS

  • Increase recruitment from New York City’s five boroughs through a scholars program, in collaboration with community organizations and other schools at the University
  • Undertake a holistic review of recruitment materials and admissions events

Enhancing the GS Environment, Student Experience, and Community Engagement

  • Review and enhance the existing bias response system in the Dean of Students Office
  • Support and collaborate with student-led initiatives
  • Develop and implement innovative co-curricular activities focused on racial justice, racism, and cultural diversity
  • Increase the School’s use of local businesses wherever possible

Developing Bridge & Student Support Programs

  • Develop a program that provides summer STEM preparation, focusing on students from underrepresented groups
  • Work towards full funding (cost of attendance) for the Program for Academic Leadership and Service (PALS); PALS is a full-tuition financial aid program for underrepresented students and/of students who are first in their families to attend college
  • Work with student coalitions to fundraise for full funding scholarships for students who are formerly incarcerated
