Position Description
The School of General Studies is seeking a student to work as a communications assistant, providing general support to the professional team that manages the School's communications to prospective, admitted, and current GS students, including the Postbac Premed Program, the Joint Program with List College of the Jewish Theological Seminary, the Dual BA Program Between Columbia University and Sciences Po, the Dual BA Program between Trinity College Dublin and Columbia University, the Dual Degree Program between Tel Aviv University and Columbia University, and the Joint Degree Program between City University of Hong Kong and Columbia University.

This position offers the potential to acquire widely-applicable skills, and is an excellent professional opportunity for students interested in a career in communications or related fields.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and posting to social media channels
  • Assisting with creation and launch of the new GS website
  • Posting events and opportunities of interest to students through various channels
  • Assisting in preparation of bi-weekly student newsletters
  • Occasionally writing and editing short news stories for the website as needed

Position Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability and desire to work in a small-team environment
  • Familiarity with managing various types of social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) a plus
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs a plus

Time Commitment
Part-time (10-20 hours per week during the academic year, with the possibility to work up to 30 hours during the summer if desired)

$16.75 per hour (work-study or casual)

Spring 2020/Fall 2020 availability is required and Summer 2020 availability is preferred.
