Narrative is at the core of human experience. The giving and receiving of stories is a primary way in which human beings come to know one another. Through them we develop individual and group identity, discover purpose and meaning, communicate, and collaborate with colleagues and communities in service to education, health, understanding, and social justice. Through the narrative medicine practicum program, master’s students in Narrative Medicine facilitate a series of close reading and reflective writing workshops in which colleagues and peers can exchange ideas, foster creative expression, reflect on professional practice, find respite, and build a strong sense of team identity, connection, and community.
