GS Student Life invites students to apply to serve as Orientation Leaders for the Spring 2024 New Student Orientation Program (NSOP).

Position Description

GS Orientation Leaders (OLs) serve as representatives of the School of General Studies, working with a diverse team of student leaders to support GS staff in the execution of Orientation events while fostering a welcoming community by sharing their experiences at GS and Columbia with incoming students. Upon the conclusion of Orientation and the satisfactory completion of duties, Orientation Leaders will receive $50 in their CU Flex account.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a representative of the Columbia University School of General Studies
  • Supporting GS staff to aid in the execution of Orientation events
  • Overseeing and supporting a cohort of incoming students (OL Group)
    • Sending new students an introduction email that highlights meetings throughout the week (email drafts will be shared with you)
  • Serving as a mandatory reporter for any instances of sexual violence during the week of Orientation

Time Commitment

  • Orientation Leaders are required to attend all of the following programs:

    • Orientation Leader Training: Fri., Jan. 5, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

    • Orientation Week: Mon., Jan. 8 - Sun., Jan. 12

      • Mandatory Programs: Mon., Jan. 8, 6:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. & Tues., Jan 9, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.

      • Speed Meeting & Pizza Party: Tues., Jan. 8, 6 - 8 p.m.

      • In addition to the events above, OLs are required to sign up for at least 5 additional events during the week, including one evening or weekend program.
