Seventeen GS students were selected among the 50 chosen from 500 Columbia undergraduates to participate in a fully-funded, Columbia University-Japan Study Tour. This one-time opportunity, supported by a grant from the Japanese government, was established when Prime Minister Shinz┼Ź Abe of Japan came to Columbia last fall and invited students to visit Japan.

While in Japan, students will participate in a variety of activities designed to ensure a deeper understanding of Japanese culture, history, politics and contemporary society. The study tour will take place in Tokyo for all but one night, when students will travel to and stay in Kyoto.

Students who applied were required to have an interest in understanding Japanese culture and use what they learn in the country to promote bi-lateral relations between the U.S. and Japan. Once they return home, students are also required to creatively share their experiences with the Columbia community.
