Students are invited to apply to the Michigan Humanities Emerging Research Scholars (MICHHERS) Program designed to interest and inform students about research opportunities available for humanities scholars at the University of Michigan. Students will have the opportunity to work on a piece of their own scholarship or develop a research project in consultation with U-M faculty and graduate students in their field. Attention will also be given to articulating the importance of diversity to the development of the humanities.
Students will receive practical instruction on applying to graduate school and pursuing careers inside and outside academia. For 2019, students interested in Asian languages and cultures, classical studies, English, history, linguistics, romance languages and literatures, sociology (qualitative), and women's studies (any humanities field) are eligible.
The Program seeks students who come from an educational, cultural, or geographic background that is underrepresented in graduate study in their discipline in the United States or at the University of Michigan.
- Must be a rising senior, hold a bachelors degree, or be enrolled in terminal M.A. program (students applying to enroll in a doctoral program for fall 2019 are ineligible to apply)
- Must be a United States citizen, permanent resident, or non-U.S. citizen with DACA
- Must have a compelling record of academic accomplishments
$1000 stipend, University housing, round-trip travel cost (up to $550), and an application fee waiver for the University of Michigan
