New Students Receive a Warm Welcome from GS Alumni

The School of General Studies welcomed a new class to campus this fall with a week of orientation activities. During this week, GS alumni participated in two panel discussions to share their experiences as students and advice for success at Columbia.

The first panel was hosted on August 30 for all incoming GS students. Aries Dela Cruz ’09, Connelly Stokes-Buckles ’08, and Alex Vial ’09 shared their own GS story as well as campus activities and resources that were beneficial to them as students.

The second panel was held in the GS Lounge on September 1, and all incoming veteran students were invited to attend. Erika Gallegos ’09, Jason Lemieux ’11, Richie Space ’05, Paul Yates ’05GS, ’08BUS discussed their transition from the military to the Columbia campus. They also shared specific ways to translate their military experience on a resume and in professional interviews.
