GS alumna Jamie Righetti ’09 published her first novel on April 12, 2016, entitled Beechwood Park. While a student at Columbia University, Righetti earned a joint degree in human evolutionary biology and creative writing. She has also worked as a journalist and writer for CNN, BBC Worldwide, and Sesame Street. Righetti discovered a love for writing at a young age when she stumbled across her father’s collection of H.P. Lovecraft books. Beechwood Park is the culmination of many years of hard work, false starts, and a dedication to her dream of writing a novel. Righetti is already working on her second book, entitled The Vanishing Bridge.
Beechwood Park is set in 1960s New York City, a time when the counter-culture revolution, the Civil Rights Movement, and anti-Vietnam protests were gripping the United States. It follows the relationship of estranged twin sisters, Abby and Cait, whose attempts to destroy each other can be compared to the age-old tale of Cain and Abel.
