May 1, 2013

Last week Eric Shaw ’03 earned his first Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Writing in Animation” for his role as head writer of the critically acclaimed PBS television series WordGirl. In the “Outstanding Writing in Animation” category, WordGirl is competing with Nickelodeon’s series Penguins of Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda.”

“I feel like I already won, simply by being nominated!” said Eric. He is looking forward to learning if he takes home an Emmy trophy on June 14 when the winner is announced at the Westin Bonaventure, Los Angeles.

Eric grew up on Long Island and finished his B.A. in political science at General Studies in 2003. After studying political science, considering completing the requirements for medical school, and enjoying Art Hum and physics, he realized his first love was writing for television. That realization paid off, for not only has Eric written for WordGirl, but he has also written for the mega-hit SpongeBob SquarePants.

Eric currently resides in Colorado Springs, CO.
