GS alumna Melissa Bell '93 has written the libretto and co-written the lyrics for an upcoming stage musical Devil and the Deep, which will premiere at New York's Theatre East on June 11. The show is a reimagining of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic Treasure Island. Bell's plays and librettos have been presented at a variety of theatrical venues, including the Triad Theatre, the Abingdon Theatre and TheatreLab in New York City.

A Dean's List student, Bell graduated from GS in 1993 with a degree in English literature and concentration in writing. In 2005, she was named an Alumni Medalist by the Columbia Alumni Association. Bell has been an active and influential alumna from the moment she graduated. Among her many contributions, she was instrumental in the evolution of The Owl, serving as its editor from 1993-2000.

You can read more about Devil and the Deep in the official press release and on the Columbia Alumni Arts site. You may purchase tickets from Theatre East.
