Local Community College Admissions Presentation Visits

Many of the dynamic and successful students at GS have previously attended a community college. Thus, community college recruitment plays a key role in the admissions cycle. The Office of Admissions has established strong relationships with community colleges around the country and specifically with Honors Programs and Phi Theta Kappa Honors Chapters. The Community College Admissions Presentation is one hour in length and open to both traditional and nontraditional students. The Admissions Manager at the event will discuss the following topics:

  • Competitive college transfer admissions
  • Why Columbia University?
  • Majors at Columbia University
  • Structure of Columbia University and the four undergraduate colleges
  • Columbia University and GS History/Mission
  • GS Application Process

Alumni Ambassadors who were transfer students from community colleges will be given the opportunity to speak to the audience following the presentation and share their experiences as a transfer student. We host admissions presentations at many of these community colleges during the fall and spring semester. Some of the institutions with a significant number of transfer applicants include:

  • Borough Manhattan Community College
  • Santa Monica College
  • Kingsborough Community College
  • LaGuardia Community College
  • Bergen Community College
  • Westchester Community College
