A Friend for Rachel is an experiential learning project that pairs pre-healthcare professionals with people with early stage dementia.
As a “friend,” the volunteer helps people with early-stage dementia continue to enjoy their interests, remain active, be involved in meaningful activity, develop new relationships, and avoid isolation. Additionally, volunteers with help provide respite time for the family caregiver, gain a thorough understanding of a very complex disease, which is considered a public health crisis, and develop a meaningful relationship with a person with dementia.
This information is intended for GS premeds interested to begin volunteering in this program in September 2021.
