Columbia provides accessible entrances and seating for students and guests with disabilities or special needs for both GS Class Day and Commencement. Closed captioning and sign-language interpreting will be available at Class Day in the designated disability seating area.
Class Day Ceremony
Wheelchair-accessible seating and special seating for guests with mobility impairments, the elderly, and people with hearing and visual disabilities is available. Parties of up to four persons may be accommodated in this area. Reservations are not required.
Larger parties should make plans to meet at a designated location at the ceremony’s conclusion to reconnect with members seated in the disability seating area.
Guests needing accomodations are asked to enter campus through the 116th and Amsterdam gates and proceed to South Field. Ushers will be able to assist guests to their seats beginning at 7:15 a.m.
No on-campus public parking is available. Drivers are advised to drop off and pick up passengers with disabilities at the 116th Street and Amsterdam gates.
The Office of Disability Services will have a limited number of wheelchairs available for use during Class Day. There is no rental fee associated. Reservations are required by April 13, 2018.
For additional support, graduates should contact Disability Services.
More information on accommodations for the Commencement ceremony is available on the University Commencement website.
