Part-time, Volunteer, Research Assistant, Pediatrics

Position Description:
The NYU School of Medicine at the Bellevue Hospital Center Department of Pediatrics is seeking a research assistant to assist physicians with research projects. Projects involve improving communication with parents whose children are admitted to the hospital. These include examining parent understanding of instructions that they receive when their children are discharged home from the hospital, including the impact of health literacy, as well as physician and parent communication during family-centered rounds.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Collecting data 
  • Performing parent interviews and administration of assessments 
  • Observing physician and parent communication during family-centered rounds
  • Scoring of questionnaires and assessments 
  • Organizing study materials 
  • Performing Literature Reviews

Position Requirements

  • Fluency in Spanish and/or prior research experience 
  • Completed at least one year of college

Time Commitment
A minimum of two semesters after training, consisting of 8 hours per week. This is generally two 4-hour shifts or one 8-hour shift per week. Shifts are Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm, or 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Early evening and weekend shifts will also be considered after 2 months of weekday shifts.
