Position Description
Dr. Christina Coyle, an expert in travel medicine and a principal investigator on a grant funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine - Elmhurst, is seeking a highly motivated candidate to work on her team as an intern. Her CDC grant is entitled “Reducing the Burden of Neglected Parasitic Infections (NPIs) in the United States through Evidence-Based Prevention and Control Activities,” and under this grant, she plans to implement a hospital-wide outpatient Chagas disease-screening program at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, which sees a large Central and South American population that is particularly at risk for Chagas disease. • Screening patients in a primary care and/or OBGYN clinic to obtain pertinent patient data
  • Ensuring patient files are appropriately flagged for further evaluation
  • Providing additional follow-through to ensure that patients who screened positive receive confirmatory diagnosis, and are appropriately tracked
  • Supporting additional educational efforts as needed for the grant, which may include coordinating virtual symposiums and other teaching sessions

Position Requirements

  • Must be a fluent Spanish speaker
  • Interest in working with migrant populations
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college degree program
  • Must be able to travel between clinic locations in Queens
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office; may use other web-based programs as assigned
