Position Description
The Mount Sinai Hospital’s Department of Volunteer Services (DVS) is seeking a volunteer coordinator.
Responsibilities include:
- Recruiting, interviewing, evaluating, scheduling, training and supervising volunteers
- Assigning volunteers in patient care, research and administrative areas for the hospital and medical school
- Maintaining ongoing relationships with onsite volunteer supervisors
- Developing and evaluating ongoing DVS programming; creates new volunteer programming to align with hospital and medical school needs
- Working seamlessly with DVS electronic database in onboarding and managing volunteers
- Accessing same system to manage and respond to staff requests for volunteers
- Representing DVS in internal and community-based outreach and relationship-building efforts
- Maintaining effective working relationships with key stakeholders from patient care, administration and research areas
- Creating and managing volunteer activity databases to evaluate programmatic outcomes and impact
- Using keen assessment skills to evaluate an applicant’s suitability for a prospective assignment
- Reviewing placement satisfaction and troubleshoots issues as they arise
- Contributes to development and maintenance of volunteer role guidelines and policies and procedures applicable to the volunteer process
- Actively contributing to weekly departmental staff meetings and promotes teamwork and collaboration
- Generating and maintaining statistics on the number of volunteers deployed, their allocation and impact
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
- Masters degree in related field a plus
- Experience working within a health care or social services setting a plus
