Position Description
The Hansjorg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery at the NYU Langone Medical Center is seeking a student to work as a research assistant. The laboratory investigates the biology of stem cell in the skin using sweat gland as a model system.
Responsibilities include:
- Handling of laboratory mice, genotyping and tracking of mouse colonies

Molecular cloning by PCR, DNA recombination and CRISPR methods for generating genetically modified mice

Ordering equipment and supplies, re-stocking common reagents and solutions, general lab organization and maintaining lab databases

Other experimental settings may include iPSC cell culture, flow cytometry and cell sorting, tissue preparation/sectioning/immunofluorescent staining and standard microbiology and biochemical techniques such as RNA and DNA extraction and Western Blotting
Position Requirements:
- B.S. in Biology or Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent)
- Highly motivated and responsible
- Highly organized, able to multi-task, take initiative, start and complete projects
- 2 years of relevant work experience in research lab
- Excellent knowledge of molecular biology and cell biology
- Ability to work independently
- Experience with handling mice, PCR and molecular cloning
- Experience in mammalian cell culture a plus
- Experience with immunostaining and flow cytometry a plus
Time Commitment
Full-time, with a minimum commitment of 2 years.
