Position Description
Dr. Bruce Glassman, a general dermatologist in Alexandria, Virginia, is seeking a student to work as a medical assistant during their glide year. Highlights of the program include gaining hands-on patient care and surgical experience.

The office consists of two dermatologists, six PAs, and multiple Mohs surgeons, and the successful applicant will work with a group of 20 or more peers who are post-graduates pursuing careers in medicine. The program is in its 19th year and has expanded to include post-graduates from all over the country. This position also offers the unique opportunity for interested individuals to assist the office's Mohs surgeons, learning grafting and histological staining techniques.

Participants assist the physician with all patient care duties and have a 90%-95% successful placement into medical, PA, and NP programs. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Triaging patients
  • Scribing during visits using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) data entry
  • Writing and understanding prescriptions and their use
  • Biopsy preparation and processing
  • Preparing patients for surgery and assisting during surgeries
  • Helping with cosmetic procedures (Botox, fillers, and lasers)
  • Assisting patients by working with insurance companies and pharmacies, educating patients on pre- and post-operative care, calling patients with pathology results, and performing suture removals and laser treatments

Position Requirements

  • Must be a college graduate or planning to graduate in May 2023, and not currently applying for the 2023 cycle
  • Own, and have a license to drive, a car

Time Commitment 
Full-time (30 - 40 hours per week), with a minimum commitment of one year
