Position Descriptions
The Cancer Immunology Lab at Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking to fill two positions—a technician and an associate researcher. Dr. Samstein’s research interests are focused on understanding the interaction between the patient’s immune system and cancer cells in the tumor, elucidating the role of the DNA damage repair and response pathways in altering the tumor’s ability to be recognized and attacked by the immune system. His laboratory will work to identify new strategies to harness the immune anti-tumor response and expand the therapeutic window of traditional immunotherapies.

Technician
The technician position is in a lab of physician scientists with the opportunity to get involved in exciting high impact cancer immunology research at the ground up. Prior technicians have worked on independent projects along with assisting in larger efforts in the lab. Gain research experience and publication with close mentorship. As a physician scientist lab, projects are translational in nature including preclinical models as well as clinical samples from patients. Opportunity to gain experience in genomic analyses and computational approaches to high-throughput data.

Associate Researcher
The associate researcher is an entry laboratory research position, responsible for conduct of routine and assisting in routine and standardized experiments using techniques specific to the assigned research project under the supervision of the principal investigator or a senior researcher. This individual typically conducts laboratory research and the position may include lab and clerical support. They analyze and assist in interpreting research outcomes. The associate researcher will be closely trained in all necessary techniques and have an opportunity to develop a leadership position within a new and exciting laboratory. They will be rapidly integrated into a growing team of researchers studying tumor immunology. The researcher will also have the opportunity to be involved
in publications and be mentored by the principal investigator for career guidance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting routine and standardized experiments using appropriate research techniques specific to subject matter of the research project
  • Analyzing and assisting in interpreting laboratory results of moderate complexity
  • Performing assays to support research studies
  • Maintaining laboratory environment and assisting in the upkeep of appropriate inventory; may include ordering of supplies
  • Logging and testing samples; preparing and submitting laboratory materials and specimens for shipment
  • Assisting in the collection, analysis, and review of experimental data for publication and presentation
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

  • Research/laboratory experience a plus
  • Basic programming skills a plus
