Advising

From the very beginning of the Program, each student is assigned an advisor at both Trinity College Dublin and Columbia University. They will guide students through their academic and student life, providing support as they pursue their goals in two stimulating academic settings.

As a student in years one and two at Trinity, students have regular contact with their Columbia academic advisor. Students are encouraged to schedule monthly Skype appointments to keep their advisors informed about their academic performance and long-term academic plans.

Arriving on the Columbia campus for the second phase of the Dual BA Program, students will continue working with the same advisor though the Office of the Dean of Students of the School of General Studies (GS). Advisors serve as students' primary link to GS throughout the tenure of the Dual BA Program, providing guidance on University as well as GS-specific policies and procedures.

Once students have chosen a major at Columbia, they will be assigned a faculty advisor within their major department who advises them about courses and requirements for the major. Faculty advisors in departments are also available to students completing concentrations in that discipline or program. Each academic department and program at Columbia has a designated Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS), who is available for consultation about majors, concentrations, and their requirements.
