More than 400 students from Columbia University, the City College of New York, Hunter College, New York University and Yeshiva University attended the 2013 Columbia University Medical School Fair held in Alfred Lerner Hall on Feb. 8 from 1-4:30 p.m.  Organized by the Columbia Premedical Association and Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program, the Medical School Fair hosted 47 medical, dental, veterinary, and allied health graduate schools representatives; 12 addititional representatives were unable to attend due to the impending blizzard.  In addition to the Fair, students were also invited to attend a panel discussion about the medical school admissions process and a break-out sessions about the Multiple Mini-Interview format and ostepathic medical schools.

During the Admissions Deans Panel, more than 200 students listened as admissions deans from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Jefferson Medical School of Thomas Jefferson University, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, New York University School of Medicine and UNMDNJ New Jersey Medical School discussed the application process and provided tips about essay writing and highlighted the importance of clinical and research work.

The break-out session about the Multiple Mini-Interview format was led by Glenn Novarr, GS fellowships coordinator, and focused on the trend among medical schools who are adopting this new interview procedure that requires applicants to meet individually with seven to eight interviewers in a short period of time.  Nearly 100 students listened to Novarr explain the revised format, which contributes to predicting success in the latter years of medical school in clinical settings.

The Osteopathic Medicine: Physicians for the Future breakout session was led by Gina Moses, associate director of the Application Services of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), and was attended by more than 50 students who learned about the history, methods and training of osteopathic physicians.
