Childcare

As part of its dedication to quality childcare services for Columbia staff and students, Columbia helps support six local day care centers. This support takes a variety of forms, ranging from scholarships provided through Columbia Community Service to the provision of volunteers and rent-free space. Each of these six schools is run by either a parents' board or a board of trustees, and teachers are certified by the Board of Education.

Additionally each year, Columbia invites representatives of University-affiliated child–care centers and other local facilities to share information and answer questions from parents living in the University's neighboring communities. To view a list of these programs, please view the Child Care Centers flyer. For details about tuition, program descriptions, and the availability of scholarships, please contact the individual schools.

Contact: For more information about specific childcare centers, please contact the Dean of Students Office, 403 Lewisohn; (212) 854-2881; or consult neighbors.columbia.edu.

Breastfeeding Support

Columbia University provides lactation rooms to support nursing mothers returning to work, school, or campus.  Each room offers a clean, secure, and private space for women who need to express breast milk during their time on campus. A list of lactation room locations is available on the Office of Work/Life website.

Office of Work/Life

While the Office of Work/Life works primarily to support faculty, researchers, administration, and staff, its website contains information that may be useful to students who are parents.
