On October 14, 2023, GS welcomed friends, family, and loved ones to campus for Homecoming weekend. The day of dedicated programming began with a breakfast at Faculty House, where nearly 100 family members and loved ones of GS students connected with one another and GS staff. “The GS family community has grown significantly,” explained Jill Galas Hickey, Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations. “Parents, partners, and children of GS students are more and more involved in our events and programs. It was wonderful to have close to 100 guests.” Breakfast was followed by a talk given by Dean Lisa Rosen-Metsch entitled “Overdose Epidemic in the U.S.: Applying a Social Science Lens to a Public Health Crisis.”

After the morning’s activities, GS alumni and their guests enjoyed the annual Homecoming luncheon at Columbia University’s Baker Athletics Complex. Guests were offered a fully catered lunch while they mingled with family and friends.

“It was so great to have such a good turnout and to see so many smiling faces out here today celebrating Columbia University’s homecoming despite the rainy weather,” said Dana Pasini, Associate Director of Alumni Relations. “We were thrilled to see so many of our GS alumni, students, and loved ones enjoying the day.”

Roar-ee the Lion made a customary appearance and Columbia’s cheerleading squad performed for all the attendees. Volunteers and staff from the GS Alumni Association (GSAA) were present to pass out branded tote bags, water bottles, t-shirts, hats, and other items.

The gathering empowered alumni to reconnect with old classmates, make new connections, and enjoy a festive Saturday with their friends and family members. Kick-off for the football game against Penn started at 1:30 p.m. and alongside alumni, a large number of current Columbia undergraduate students filled the bleachers to cheer the home team on.
