Position Description
Dr. Venetia Zachariou’s Lab at the Boston University School of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology, Physiology & Biophysics is seeking a Research Assistant.

Their research focuses on signal transduction and epigenetic mechanisms underlying central nervous system disorders and their treatment. They use molecular, biochemical, and behavioral models to understand chronic pain mechanisms and to identify/validate new treatment targets. They are a collaborative team of researchers, looking for a talented and motivated individual interested in pursuing a career in medicine or research to join them as a lab technician. They offer several possibilities for collaborations in translational research project.

Main Research Areas

  • Molecular mechanisms of drug addiction in pain-free and chronic pain states
  • G protein signaling adaptations in chronic pain
  • Novel intracellular targets for the treatment of chronic pain
  • Epigenetic mechanisms of chronic pain

  • Maintaining lab’s mouse colony (splitting cages, setting up breeders, etc)
  • Establishing new mutant mouse lines
  • Maintaining organized mouse colony records
  • Applying molecular techniques for mouse genotyping (DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis)
  • Developing new genotyping protocols through experimental validation
  • Performing tasks related to biosafety and IACUC procedures
  • Coordinating lab ordering
  • Collaborating with lab members through molecular and behavioral techniques
