GS Planning Day

GS Planning Day

Congratulations on your acceptance to GS!

The GS Planning Day is a series of events designed to assist you in making a smooth transition to Columbia University. The activities planned during GS Planning Day will give you the chance to meet other GS students, find out more about financing your education, familiarize yourself with the Morningside Heights campus, and begin to acquaint yourself with the undergraduate degree program.

Academic Planning Session (APS)

While most of the activities of GS Planning Day are optional, attendance at an Academic Planning Session (APS) is

  • mandatory for all new students
  • a prerequisite for meeting with an academic advisor and registering for classes.

During the APS you will review the general academic requirements, the registration and advising process, as well as other policies you will need to know as a GS student.

You cannot attend an APS until you have formally accepted the offer of admission, signified by returning the enclosed Acceptance Reply Form along with the $500 tuition deposit. Please submit your tuition deposit and Acceptance Reply Form at least one week prior to your Planning Day Session.

You are encouraged to attend the earliest APS possible. Attending an early APS allows you to meet with your advisor and register for classes sooner and offers you a better chance of getting into courses that fit both your interests and your schedule. Seats are limited for each APS.

To complete the registration process you will need your Personal Identification Number (PID) provided in your Admissions Packet. If you need to cancel or change your APS registration, refer to your confirmation email, which provides a URL where you may cancel your previous reservation. Then return to this page to register for a new APS.

Important Registration Information

Before attending an APS, you must formally accept the offer of admission, signified by returning the Acceptance Reply Form along with the required tuition deposit.

Seating is limited. You must register in advance for an APS.

You may register for only one APS at a time. If you are unable to attend the APS for which you have registered, please first cancel your registration and then register for another APS.

APS registration closes at 12 p.m. three business days before the session.

If you experience problems registering for an APS, email gsaps@columbia.edu.
